Launching online at www.haskellcollection.com in mid March, the collection has a focus on eco-sensitive projects.

Andrew Stoneman, VP of Business Development for Haskell, considers the introduction of the new line a natural for the young company. “We really did a lot of homework on the nature of the materials and the manufacturing process with an extreme regard for environmental sensitivity and product quality. Eco Friendly Profile

Type 304 EAF stainless steel frames with a recycled domestic scrap metal content up to 85%. 100% recyclable.
Powder coat finish, adds to the finish durability while using no solvents and introducing no VOC’s (volatile organic compounds). Overspray and residual powder coating materials are captured for reuse after treating the steel.
Cushions are filled with a proprietary “bio-foam” – almost 40% vegetable oil composition and organic, halogen-free fire retardants. The Variable Pressure Foaming (VPF) technology used to cast the foam is a virtually emission free process as well.
Cushions’ outers utilize Bella-Dura®, a performance fabric engineered via proprietary yarn technology and made from an industrial by-product of the petroleum refining process. It conveniently eliminates the need for virgin materials. Bella-Dura® also maintains an MBDC “Cradle to Cradle” Silver certification and its inherently anti-microbial and stain resistant composition is fully recyclable after a long lifecycle.
Made In The USA- The entire line for Southern California fabrication citing a desire to retain paramount quality control and feed the local economy. Stoneman adds “It was incredibly important for us to keep production here at home with the economic climate being what it is. We wanted to create and maintain as many jobs as possible while manufacturing a high quality, home grown line.
With the continued prominence of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation in commercial, civic and residential developments in the US and abroad the product line is also well positioned to provide credits in the Recycled Content and possibly even Regional Materials categories for numerous project types”.

I had an email from a person looking for reclaimed furniture from boats. Something with a little history. Got me to goggling and found this great Boat Furniture site All From Boats made by Achmad Kurt, a German living in Indonesia. If you have ever been to Indonesia, hopefully you have been on one of these boats, whether diving or following dolphins.

I am so surprised at the amount of furniture made from Indonesian boats, I have sailed literally in boats that appear to be duck-taped together! He has done a great job of capturing the integrity of the Indonesian boat design, especially the colors.

Boat Drawers

He also has coffee tables, sideboards, shelving, bars and benches. I wish I had known about this the last time I was in Kuta and Ubud. Since my bucket list includes visiting every one of the 2,000 Indonesian islands- this is on the list of places to visit.

Associated Press: Once a laggard in the green scene, the $8.3 billion furniture industry is catching up.

From individual furniture makers to national retailers, green furnishing options are popping up in many stores and price ranges to appeal to eco-friendly consumers and conform to stricter environmental laws.

The Sustainable Furnishings Council, a nonprofit that promotes green practices in the furniture industry, has grown to over 300 members since it was created three years ago. And green trends were highlighted at the two largest furniture shows in High Point, N.C., and Las Vegas this year.

There’s good reason: Half of U.S. consumers said they would pay 5 percent or more for green products, according to a recent survey from The Boston Consulting Group. If you have been reading this blog, I am almost fanatic about the many uses of cardboard! Krooom, has designed a new eco friendly furniture made from recycled cardboard. Krooom cardboard furniture is definitely a DYI, but as you can see by the below video, it looks very easy to put together. They make furniture for the home, office and kids. I like it.

Green Factor:

Cardboard furniture is packed flat- no need for styrene peanuts, less energy expended.
Cardboard is easily recycled, it one decides they don’t like it anymore.
Cardboard furniture is made from recycled cardboard, or magazines- conserving energy and natural resources.

A new store opened in Oakland featuring all sorts of goodies made with reclaimed materials. Fernseed offers re-habbed containers, (see above) re-used, furniture, recycled revived jewelry, decor, art and accessories. I love how she rescued some of the furniture and re-made into some great pieces.

I love how these suitcases provide storage as well. The sofa is reclaimed!
