The McGee Group, an eyewear distributor out of Georgia sponsors a contest, challenging design students to reuse eyeglasses to make Trashion Clothing from eyeglasses. Working with the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation’s annual Night Of Spectacles, where proceeds from the auction were donated.
Each year the Lions Lighthouse receives over 100,000 eyeglasses and lenses to be recycled, and a portion of these glasses are scratched or broken beyond repair. Rather than throw out the glasses, they are given to local design schools and artists and turned into wearable dresses. The artists show off their work and compete for a scholarship at our annual Night of Spectacles. The evening includes a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, and an open bar.
