Moms Recycle And Reuse Clothing For Eco Chic Kids
Written by Cathy on April 20, 2010 – 6:49 am -
Dress M Up Clothing, made with recycled clothes
I love to write about people that are doing something for the environment , starting their own business and doing so in an Eco-Friendly way. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to write about everybody, but Jody Seguine at Dress- M- Up reused clothing really struck me because the clothing is so cute! Jody and a few other moms salvage clothing and reuse and remake them into the most adorable outfits for girls. Not only that they donate 20% of the proceeds back to worthy causes.
I’ll tell you what else I like, the recycled clothes are one of a kind and affordable. Some of the outfits are $20! Where else can you get one of a kind, eco fashion and handmade for $20?
You can view pictures on Dress M Up, but the site is being worked or or go to Etsy A little bit about Jody:
A mother of 6 ranging from 4-25 yrs old, 3 grandchildren, an artist and

Dress M Up- Black and Pink Heart Sundress
writer , (you can view her art on Etsy as well) And- she has a ministry which feeds up to 500 people a week! In fact she got the idea from the clothes that were being donated and thrown away in the trash!
She garage sales for the clothes or gets them at Sav-mor which is like a Salvation Army. The only clothes they take from the ministry is the stuff people don’t want. The purpose is of course to earn money for our families but 20% goes to a worthy cause. (Like sending Foster kids to camp, a mission trip, or for someone in need).
In her own words: ‘I know this probably sounds crazy to most…and I am okay with that…but I really feel that this is something that God has told me to do. I love the Lord with all my heart…and I love people. If this is another adventure that He is taking me on so that I can love on people then that is what I want to do.’
For the record, Jody is from Southern California, Long Beach area, so all California can shop local and support local business and charities. I highly recommend you visit the site, shop on Etsy, your kids will be complimented on the remarkable eco friendly clothes.

Eco Friendly Fashion Are Hot, Hot Hot
Written by Cathy on March 24, 2010 – 6:55 pm -Eco-friendly fashion is a hot trend. And you don’t have to sacrifice style or pay an arm and a leg to get eco-friendly trendy clothes. In this article we will talk about what is eco-friendly fashion, some eco-friendly fashion trends and designers that are offering stylish and affordable eco-friendly fashion clothing.
Different people define eco-friendly fashion differently but some of the key elements to eco-friendly fashion are materials and processes used by designers and manufacturers that are friendly to you and the earth. This may include materials such as organic cotton, bamboo, flax and hemp, among others that are biodegradable. Or use of processes that are organically safe and eco-friendly. For example, organic cotton production processes do not use pesticides that can harm your health or the planet’s health. Eco-friendly fashion trends also include packaging that is eco-friendly
The benefits of eco-friendly fashion are not only long term value to the environment but it could have short-term health value to the user. Conventional clothing dyes and garment finishes can cause a wide variety of health problems from skin rashes, headaches, nausea and fatigue. Symptoms could include red cheeks and ears, dark circles under the eye and learning or behavior problems.
What’s hot in eco-friendly fashion? Use of eco-friendly silk, organic cotton and bamboo is hot. Although what gets branded as organic and ethical for silk depends on the type of silkworm used, and whether the silk-worm is killed as a by-product of the harvesting. Increasingly eco-friendly fashion designers are using natural color cottons, wools and other material to create outfits or vegetable dyes that are safer to make and use. Bamboo organic fabric is becoming quite trendy. Clothing made of bamboo organic fibers are robust and durable as denim even as it is soft and smooth as fine silk. Bamboo organic clothing can provide other benefits such as removing moisture and bacteria from the skin.
Talking about eco-friendly designers, Shubrah Designs at shubrah.com is solely focused on eco-friendly fashions. Designer Shubhra Chandra seeks to blend east and west seamlessly into a trendy line of casual tees and evening looks. She believes in natural fabrics and responsible and sustainable business practices.
Natalie Portman has teamed up with Tony Shoe Line to create designer shoes made of alternative materials. As she says, “This collection offers a great selection without compromising quality or style”. Stella McCartney has created a collection called “Green Collection” using only organic materials. She also tries to use eco-friendly material and processes throughout her various collections.
All-in-all, eco-friendly fashion trends are becoming more mainstream with each passing day. Countless haute couture designers are already successfully incorporating eco-friendly designs into their catwalk shows and my bet is that this trend is here to stay.
To know more about various eco-friendly designers, please search for eco friendly fashion online! You can find more details on Shubrah Designs at http://www.shubrah.com and you can read her blog at http://shubrah.blogspot.com/.

Choonimals- Action Sport Clothes That Give Back And Made In The USA
Written by Cathy on February 23, 2010 – 8:06 pm -
Choonimals T-shirts
Eco Friendly Action Sport Week At Green Eco Services. A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go the the Action Sport Show here in San Diego. This week I will be featuring some of the new eco friendly and green products that are available for those ‘action sport’ minded greenies.
Walking along the aisles, Choonimals T-shirts struck me immediately, I loved the T-shirts, trendy enough for any age group or whether you are action sport minded! Choonimals are made in United States by American Apparel Shops.
Why they are eco friendly:
1.) Made in USA- local company, reducing carbon footprint.
2.) Give back- are in partnerships with Develop Africa a not for profit organization that promotes sustainable development in Mozambique and Casa de la Sal, a Mexico City orphanage.
I think you can intrepret the Tees in many ways, one part is funky fun and the other part is if we don’t stop getting toxin control over our oceans and land, the animals

Shoonimals- Marine Life
will all be warped like the ones shown on the T-shirts. No matter what, they are fun, creative and somewhat wacky and perhaps that is why I like them!
To view more about the chooettes try visiting their blog, definitely worth spending some time browsing, fun, everything from a video to Mt. Kilamajaro to music. Their give back programs are also on the blog, and be sure to visit and see what they to support sustainability in Africa and Mexico.
