Welcome back!

Xcel Energy Extends Refrigerator Recycling Into 2010

CARLSBAD, N.M., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Xcel Energy today announced that it has extended its already successful Refrigerator Recycling Program into 2010. Residents now have until the end of the year to recycle old appliances and get a cash incentive.

The Refrigerator Recycling Program offers residential electric customers a $35 rebate and a free pick up of their old, working refrigerators. Over 95% of the appliance is properly destroyed and recycled which prevents it from going into a landfill. The program started in May 2009 and is administered by Appliance Recycling Centers of America, Inc. It will now run until December 31, 2010.

“Our goal is to improve energy efficiency in our service territory and make it really easy for customers to get rid of their old appliances,” says Kelsey Burich, Program Manager, Xcel Energy. “The cheapest energy out there is the energy we don’t have to produce. Using less helps all of us lower our bills and put money back in our pockets.”

The $35 recycling incentive is automatically mailed to the customer within three to four weeks after pick up.

For more information on Xcel Energy’s Refrigerator Recycling Program, please visit ResponsibleByNature.com/fridge or call 866.552.8755.

Green and Eco Resources in New Mexico

Written by Cathy on October 15, 2008 – 1:07 pm -

State Flower- Yucca Flower

The yucca was adopted as the State Flower on March 14, 1927. The yucca is a member of the lily family and a symbol of sturdiness as well as beauty. In the early summer, pale ivory flowers bloom at the tips of its long, fibrous stalks. At the base of the plant are broad, sharpedged leaves that look like stilettos. The yucca sometimes grows to the height of a small tree.

Green, Eco, Sustainable Resources, Blogs- New Mexico

  • Dreaming New Mexico The Dreaming New Mexico project seeks to reconcile nature and cultures at the state level. Taking care of nature means taking care of people, and taking care of people means taking care of nature. We seek systemic, collaborative approaches toward a common vision of restoration. Our focus is on both practical and visionary solutions
  • Eco New Mexico
  • Eco Sensors: Eco Sensors Division of KWJ Engineering Inc. is the premier designer and supplier worldwide of low-cost ozone sensing instruments. These are used to monitor safety in the workplace, control ozone generators, monitor and control processes such as food production and storage, deodorization, sterilization, and measuring ozone dissolved in water. Our instruments are simple, user-friendly and inexpensive. We have also always designed and manufactured VOC (volatile organic compounds) instruments which continue to enjoy market acceptance. We have grown every year since our incorporation in 1991 and have been consistently profitable.
  • Environmental New Mexico Mountains, grasslands and desert landscapes are a core part of New Mexico’s natural beauty. Unfortunately, mega-developers like Verde Group and SunCal are rushing to convert our lands into sprawling subdivisions — and they want us to pay for it. Because a tax giveaway rewards developers with billions of taxpayer dollars for more sprawl, there’s a new land rush in New Mexico.  To stop this land rush, we need to close down the tax sprawl subsidy before New Mexico’s open space and quality of life is damaged beyond repair.
  • New Mexico- Clean and Beautiful As a statewide program and state affiliate with Keep America Beautiful, Inc., New Mexico Clean & Beautiful is the state’s leader in litter control and beautification.  The program’s maing objective is to invest in local governments by annually awarding grants to local programs that undertake litter control through elimination, education and eradication, beautification; recycling; graffiti and weed eradication.
  • Our Greener Life New Mexico Our Greener Life is dedicated to spreading knowledge of living in a more sustainable and earth-friendly manner. It is written from the perspective of a married couple, who are on the path to a greener life. It is our hope that we can raise awareness of environmental issues, such as global warming, by exploring topics of sustainable living and our experience of integrating those ideas into our life.
